Underground | The digital shop

It's no secret I love all things hyrbid so the digital shop is one of my favorite things at Studio Calico each month! This month is just so much fun! I decided to base a template off one of my layouts from last month and let me tell you .. I had a BLAST creating it and even more fun using it!

This is the layout I made using the Poet Society Kits

This is the template I made using the layout as inspiration

And here is the layout I made using only digital items from the store!

I ended up using it for a 6x12 project life insert and it turned out to be the PERFECT intro to my Alaska photos. I like that it is a little sneak of what is to come! A couple of the items I loved using included (but of course not limited to)

Hello Forever printables, let's face it these are just so much fun and I use them ALL.THE.TIME!

Hello Forever's printables, because.. EPIC!!

All the stamps this month are so much fun but I am pretty sure I am going to OVER USE that stitch stamp, I LOVE it so much. Sooooo let's just make a little deal, like a code word when I go crazy with it mmmkay? How about "Ohana" because family reminds you when you are going CRAZY over STITCH! ;)

Allow your kids to play..... with your stamps!!

Seriously. I know. I have always been a firm believer in allowing the kids to play with whatever they want in our craft room. Yes, Addison has covered a piece of paper in 1,000 enamel dots and thickers have been used to cover faces but beautiful things also happen because of this policy! Today Addison decided to make a birthday card and out she came with the most beautiful handstamped icecream cone I have ever seen! I took a photo of it and within the hour had an order sent to printsonwood (they are currently running a 30% off sale for Father's Day) I love it so much!

She did all the stamping I simply added the "good times" in photoshop using a Studio Calico digital stamp and orderd a print! I LOVE how she mixed colors, has them sitting all wonky and off set the sprinkles... none of which I would have thought to do. The way children see things is so special and I love moments like this where you see it so clearly!!

Also, DON'T feel guilty if you have some special items you paid big money for and don't want the kids to use! I have a drawer with my work product and special items that they know is off limits but thats okay because they have access to 90% of what is in there and believe me that is enough!!

Layout Love | May 7th Edition

I thought it was high time (<---- do people still say this?! Let's bring it back) to have another Layout LOVE post on the blog! Every single time I go to the gallery at Studio Calico I am just in awe.

There are so many things I LOVE about this layout. The graphic journaling is what pulled me right in I love how Marivi pulled together this composition. I have to tell you though, the sequins (my fave are the color theory sequins that come with different shapes in the same shade)  are stealing the show for me here. So whimsical, perfectly placed just lovely! I also am loving the way she used Mister Huey's in my FAVORITE color INKY BLACK! So wonderful!

Chantal is one of my favorite scrapbookers. I love her whimsical touches and how she is able to combine digital and paper scrapbooking so beautifuly. She ROCKED the digital stamp from Merlin (P.S. this is still available, how in the world did that happen?) by adding lovely bits all around the stamp. She is such an inspiration and if you would like to learn more from Chantal about hybrid scrapbooking, make sure to sign up for our class digital | beyond the basics.. it will be epic! :)

Super Toni has been on fire for a while now so it's no surprise to see the beauty when you look in the gallery. She makes the Bluegrass Farm Scrapbook kit   and Project Life kit SHINE with her adorable photo and great title work! She is working from a sketch from the SKETCHBOOK class at Studio Calico and Kelly Purkey. Amazing job Toni, just love it!

What is inspiring you lately? If you have a layout that just pulled you in and you would like to nominate for layout love please leave me a link! Have a wonderful day!

The ONE with the AWESOME Michelle Godin

Happy Thursday! YAY! Do you all remember the other day when I posted this amazing layout?

Well there is something you might not know! The person behind this beautiful page is also an inspiring designer! And today we all get to get to know her a little bit better, how fun is that?

Hi! I'm Michelle! I'm 32 and I live in Ontario, Canada with my husband Kurtis. We just got married last September and moved into our first house in January 2013 so it's been a big year for us!

I discovered digital scrapbooking in 2005 but I've always been a memory-keeper in some form or another. I'm a teeny tiny bit obsessed with history, to the point where I even made a career out of it! I work full-time as a registrar at a museum where I process loans and acquisitions of artifacts. I spend my evenings and weekends scrapping or designing for my store at the Lilypad. I will admit I'm not a very prolific designer because even though I adore my little side-business I will always be a scrapper first and foremost!
Here's where I create. I took this photo on Monday while I was working on my Toolbox layout so this mess is all Shanna's fault! HA! I thought about cleaning and taking a better photo but this is more accurate :)

I've always loved art journaling, painting, drawing, etc. A lot of my digital designs in my shop are hand-made creations. But I've always struggled with paper scrapping! I give it a try every once in a while and then go running back to digi! I think my brain is just hard-wired for digital because that's what I got into first. I'm determined to do my next year of Project Life in paper though so I signed up for the Toolbox class at SC to start practicing and learning some new techniques. The whole hybrid thing is really rocking my world right now!

Michelle I am just MAJORLY crushing on your style, what inspires you?

I just recently joined Pinterest (I'm always the LAST person to jump on these bandwagons!) so right now all the eye candy I find on there is a huge inspiration. When I scrap, I'm usually product driven. I don't think to myself "Ok I have this photo, how can I scrap it?" It's always "Oh wow! That's a gorgeous paper! How can I use it?" I'm a very visual person and I just get so inspired by all the pretties! I also get really inspired by colour. There seems to be a trend going on right now where everyone is scrapping in whites, and soft, muted tones. While I find those layouts and products gorgeous, I need my colours!

Being the trend setter that you are, what do you see being a trend as we head into fall?

Black and gold! I noticed a few of the new lines have used black really prominently (gotta love that chalkboard trend!) and I was excited to see the gold in the new Maggie Holmes collection. For digital scrapping, I think (and hope!) the trend for hybrid will keep growing into next year.

We all have our favorite projects that we create, can you share yours?

Wow! That's a tough question. I guess the project I'm most proud of is my current year of Project Life. I started on my wedding day last September so I'm almost done and this is completely mind-boggling to me because I've NEVER kept up with a project this long before in my life. I'm really excited to have my first year of marriage documented this way.

As for a specific layout, this one is very special to me! I'm an amateur genealogist and I love scrapping my heritage photos.

As I am inspired by you, can you share with us who inspires YOU the most?

Julie Balzer has to be the artist I admire the most. She is ridiculously talented and so prolific! There are so many elements to her creative business, I can't wrap my brain around how she manages it all. Her style really speaks to me and I've learned so much from her through her blog and workshops. Whenever I need an inspiration boost, a pep talk or some help figuring out a technique her blog is the first place I visit!

Thank you so much for sharing with us Michelle, it is so much fun to get to peek inside your creative space and see where you are coming from to create such unique pieces!! I love Michelle's designs, and wanted to share a couple of my faves with you today!

These hand carved stamps are when I fell in love with Michelle's work!

Michelle's word art would be the perfect addition to any layout!

For reals, I NEED these journal cards for Jaden!

Guess what Michelle has some GIFTS for you all!

Use this coupon in Michelle's store from now until August 15th to save 35%!

Also she made us this LOVELY freebie with all our favorite elements that we are learning to use in TOOLBOX at Studio Calico! How much does she rock? Yep, I think so toO!!

Thank you Michelle for everything, you are just wonderful! And thank you to everyone else for sharing the love! Make sure to visit Michelle's social media sites for even more info! Talk to you soon! P.S. Check out Instagram for even more Giveaways from Michelle!!

The one with MY FIRST CLASS at STUDIO CALICO!!!!

Oh my goodness I feel like pinching myself. Not only am I teaching at Studio Calico but I am doing so along side some VERY seriously MEGA talented ladies including Amy, Celine and Gerlyn!  We are teaching a technique based class and we plan on filling your toolbox with some new tools for creating!!

I am teaching on digital design. Using photoshop to enchance your paper pages! This is all about loving the hybrid way of creating, using those digital brushes you bought but aren't sure what to do with!!!

I tell you what, I created some brushes just for this class! I had so much fun creating these. Since they aren't being used as physical stamps that gave me a little more freedome to play with transparency in the stamps that you won't see on other Studio Calico stamps. They look like WATERCOLORS! And they are so much fun, I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!!

**Please note note all the digital stamps are shown in the preview but it will give you a good idea! **

I had so much fun creating the stamps for the class I couldn't wait to put them to good use so I wanted to make sure to share a little peek at one of my projects!

Along with digital stamps I am going to show you some fun ways to incorporate digital paper into your projects! Studio Calico has brought some of your favorite paper patterns to us DIGITALLY for the class! We have unique things planned so I hope you will join us in the classroom.

I also have sneaks from my inspiring teammates!

I hope to see you in class, get more information and sign up ---->> HERE <<-----

See you soon!!!
